According to the Fairfield Police Department, the incident occurred on the morning of October 22, 2025. A female student was walking near the 300 block of Dahlia Street when she was reportedly confronted by Victor Viera Chavez, who allegedly used vulgar, race-based language before physically assaulting her, reportedly due to her perceived immigration status.

A nearby resident witnessed the assault, assisted the victim, and brought her to Fairfield High School, where staff immediately alerted police. The student was taken to a local hospital for medical evaluation.

School Resource Officers and detectives from the Youth Services Unit initiated an investigation. When initial contact attempts with Chavez were unsuccessful, officers conducted surveillance at his home the following morning to ensure the safety of other students. Chavez was observed leaving the residence and was safely detained and interviewed by police.

Chavez was arrested and booked into the Solano County Jail on the following felony charges:

  • Assault
  • Child endangerment
  • Hate crime

The Fairfield Police Department emphasized its zero-tolerance stance on violence and hate crimes and encouraged the community to stay vigilant and review school walking safety tips with children.
