HOUSTON – Four people, including an 11-year-old child, were injured after an argument between two groups living in adjoining apartments escalated into an exchange of gunfire at an apartment complex in northeast Houston.
According to the Houston Police Department, officers responded to the 5300 block of Coke Street around 7 p.m. and found four victims suffering from gunshot-related injuries.
Two adult women were shot and transported to area hospitals in stable condition. An adult man suffered a graze wound to the head and was also transported in stable condition. An 11-year-old child sustained a graze wound to the leg and was transported in stable condition.
Investigators said the shooting stemmed from an ongoing dispute between residents of neighboring apartments. Police said the argument began when one group was moving out and throwing trash into the apartment courtyard. The disagreement continued for several hours before one group allegedly produced firearms, prompting the opposing group to return fire.
Police were able to get a description of one of the vehicles, locate it, and detain several suspects.
The investigation remains ongoing.
