HOUSTON, TX — A 21-year-old motorcyclist was killed in a single-vehicle crash near the Memorial Drive tunnels earlier this morning.

According to the Houston Police Department, officers were dispatched to the 6900 block of Memorial Drive around 1 a.m. and found a motorcycle in a ditch. Houston Fire Department personnel attempted lifesaving measures, but the rider did not survive.

The rider and his coworkers had reportedly left a nearby Topgolf before stopping at a park. Investigators were told the rider planned to travel through the Memorial Drive tunnels and complete a loop at a high rate of speed to amplify the sound of the motorcycle’s engine.

The rider lost control and was ejected from the motorcycle. Friends told investigators that alcohol could have been involved.

The rider was described as a 21-year-old Hispanic man. He was wearing a helmet and full protective gear.
