Passenger killed in fiery crash on Eastex Freeway in north Houston

HOUSTON, TX – A passenger was killed and a driver injured following a fiery crash on the Eastex Freeway late Friday night. https://youtu.be/MsJEXUjVchA The incident occurred around 10 p.m. on May 9, 2025, in the northbound lanes of the 3000 block of Eastex Freeway near Green Street. Emergency medical services arrived to find a pickup truck engulfed in flames with both occupants still inside. The driver was rescued from the vehicle and transported to a hospital with injuries. The passenger was pronounced deceased at the scene. Preliminary findings indicate the vehicle lost control, struck the shoulder wall, and caught fire. The identity of the deceased has not yet been confirmed. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

HOUSTON, TX – Heavy overnight storms caused major street flooding across EaDo making roads impassable. Two vehicles were found submerged in an underpass on Polk Street near Milby. It is believed that all occupants were able to exit safely. METRO light rail tracks on Harrisburg Boulevard were completely covered by floodwaters, as well as the street. A Houston Police Department Mobility Service Officer, who had been honking during the incident, took off shortly afterward, presumably to assist. Police arrived within minutes and heard shots still being fired as they approached the scene. Victims were located in multiple areas around the residence.
