Man shot multiple times in southeast Houston after looking at suspects the wrong way

HOUSTON, TX – A man in his early 20s was shot several times after being chased by three suspects in a southeast Houston neighborhood.

The shooting occurred around 3 a.m. in the 3900 block of Poplar. According to police, the victim was struck multiple times in the torso and grazed in the head. Officers arriving at the scene applied a chest seal before transporting him to a local hospital. The victim was conscious and told officers that he had simply looked at the suspects the wrong way, which they reportedly took offense to.

Witnesses reported seeing the victim running down the street before collapsing in a nearby yard. Three Hispanic males were seen chasing the victim on foot. Once the victim fell, two of the suspects kicked him while the third fired multiple shots. Approximately five gunshots were fired—one while the victim was running and four after he collapsed.

A white, newer model Chevrolet Tahoe arrived shortly after the shooting to pick up the suspects before fleeing the scene. Neighbors attempted to assist the victim before police arrived.

Houston Police Department’s Major Assaults Division is investigating the incident.
