Homeowner shot while stopping attempted home invasion in east Houston

HOUSTON, TX – Houston police say a homeowner was shot around 1:20 a.m. after exchanging gunfire with two males during an attempted home invasion in the 9400 block of East Avenue J.

The shooting occurred when two males approached the residence and attempted to force entry. Police say a gunfight followed between the homeowner and the suspects. The homeowner was struck at least once and drove himself to Houston Fire Department Station 23, where officers later located him and obtained his statement.

One suspect was found on Avenue L after knocking on a nearby door. Officers took him into custody and noted he had multiple gunshot wounds. The second suspect possibly left the area in a vehicle and has not been located.
