HOUSTON, TX – Dr. Matthews visited the Life at Jackson Square apartment complex today, formerly known as Nob Hill, after tenants requested assistance over what residents described as ongoing safety, maintenance, and sanitation concerns at the property.

During the walkthrough, residents pointed out vacant and boarded apartments, trash buildup, broken mailboxes, damaged laundry facilities, and apartments they said were accessible to anyone entering the property. Tenants also said there were rats, roaches, flies, maggots, and other infestations throughout the complex.
Several tenants told Dr. Matthews they were paying between approximately $900 and nearly $2,000 per month after utilities and additional fees. Residents also alleged ongoing plumbing problems, leaking air conditioning systems, brown water, mold concerns, broken gates, and a lack of security on the property.
One tenant stated she had been washing dishes in her bathtub after allegedly being told not to use her kitchen sink or dishwasher because of plumbing issues connected to another apartment. The tenant also alleged repeated maintenance delays and said mold concerns had been painted over multiple times without permanent repairs being made.
During the visit, several violation notices and postings from city departments were seen attached to the front door of the leasing office. The leasing office door was also locked with a sign posted stating the office was closed.
Dr. Matthews said she plans to bring Houston city officials to the property and referenced Houston’s recently approved slumlord ordinance, stating she believes the complex could face multiple citations.
Residents also alleged vehicle break-ins, stolen mail, squatters, and ongoing criminal activity occurring around the complex.
This is a developing story and more information will follow if it becomes available.
