COLLIN COUNTY, Texas — Dr. Matthews joined a family outside the Collin County Courthouse to speak out about an ongoing child custody dispute involving Judge Lindsey Wynne, alleging a mother’s postpartum struggles became a central issue in a case that has kept her separated from her daughter for nearly three years.
During the press conference, Dr. Matthews stood alongside the child’s mother, grandmother and other relatives, who alleged the court system failed to adequately consider evidence they claim demonstrates the child’s best interests would be served by returning the child to the mother’s side of the family.
According to the family, the case began after a hospital report led to a child welfare investigation. Family members said the investigation ultimately concluded with findings they described as “unable to determine,” but custody litigation continued. They also alleged court records and evidence in the case have been sealed from public view.
Dr. Matthews displayed photographs, court documents and transcripts during the event, alleging the court had been presented with evidence regarding the child’s living conditions while in the father’s care. She repeatedly questioned why the child remained in that environment and accused the court of failing to act in the child’s best interest.
The child’s mother, identified as Precious, said she has spent nearly three years fighting to maintain a relationship with her daughter. She told supporters that postpartum challenges following childbirth became a focal point in the custody battle, despite her never harming, abandoning or neglecting her child.
“I want what’s fair,” she said. “I want fairness, accountability.”
Family members alleged they have been excluded from portions of court proceedings and accused the family court system of treating them unfairly. Several speakers claimed race played a role in decisions made throughout the case.
The grandmother said the family has pursued legal remedies and continues to challenge decisions made in court. She alleged the family has been fighting the case for nearly three years and called for greater transparency in family court proceedings.
Additional speakers shared their own experiences involving family court matters in Collin County. One father alleged Judge Wynne improperly removed his child from his custody despite what he described as a strong parental history and no criminal record. Another woman alleged family court rulings favored her former partner despite domestic violence allegations.
Throughout the event, Dr. Matthews encouraged supporters to attend future court hearings and called for judicial complaints to be filed against Judge Wynne.
Judge Wynne did not appear at the event, and no response from the court was provided during the press conference.
The custody case remains ongoing.
