HOUSTON – A driver was killed after a vehicle left the roadway, struck a tree, rolled over and caught fire early Wednesday morning in the Copperfield Place area of northwest Houston.

According to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, the crash happened around 2:32 a.m. in the 15600 block of Glen Chase Drive.

Investigators said an unidentified person was driving a white 2020 Nissan Kicks westbound when the driver failed to stay in a single lane. The Nissan left the roadway to the north and struck a tree before rolling over and catching fire.

The driver, who was the vehicle’s only occupant, was unable to get out and was found with no signs of life.

A witness remained at the scene and told investigators the Nissan was traveling westbound at a high rate of speed before the crash.

The Harris County Sheriff’s Office Vehicular Crimes Division is investigating.
