The driver fled southbound at a high rate of speed, running multiple red lights as the deputy pursued. At the intersection of Elgin and Smith, the F-150 ran a red light and collided with a white Lexus traveling eastbound. The Lexus spun out, struck a building, and caught fire. According to Houston police, the victim was struck in the buttocks and transported in non-critical condition to a nearby hospital. Initial reports suggested a possible person trapped inside, leading firefighters to begin an aggressive offensive attack. According to police, the child ran into the parking lot roadway area while playing with a sibling as a family member was unloading groceries. Her brother, who was reportedly unaware she was behind the truck, began backing up and struck her. Family members immediately stopped the vehicle, rendered aid, and called 911.
