Dr. Matthews files complaint with Harris County DA over Aubrey Taylor body armor photos

HOUSTON – Dr. Matthews visited the Harris County District Attorney’s Office on Monday to hand-deliver evidence and make a formal complaint regarding controversial blogger and convicted felon Aubrey Taylor.

According to Dr. Matthews, the complaint centers on publicly available photographs and videos that Taylor posted online appearing to show him wearing body armor, including while posing with politicians.

Dr. Matthews alleges Taylor has been paid by politicians to target their political opponents and critics through his online platform.

Court records previously reviewed by Houston Stringer show Taylor has felony convictions in Texas.

Under federal law, 18 U.S.C. § 931 prohibits body armor possession only for individuals convicted of certain qualifying violent felonies. Texas law is broader. Under Texas Penal Code Section 46.041, a person convicted of a felony commits an offense if, after the conviction, they possess metal or body armor designed to protect against gunfire.

As of Monday evening, no new charges related to the body armor issue had been filed against Taylor, and Houston Stringer has not independently confirmed whether the Harris County District Attorney’s Office has opened an investigation.

After Dr. Matthews filed the complaint, Taylor claimed in a Facebook post that he is exempt from body armor since he claims to be an “investigative journalist”

Houston Stringer will continue to follow the case and provide updates as additional information becomes available.
