Unattended Cooking Sends One to Hospital After Home Catches Fire

HOUSTON, TEXAS - April 29, 2024 - One person was hospitalized following a house fire caused by unattended cooking on Sunday afternoon. The fire occurred in the 1300 block of Ruthven St., 77019, at approximately 4:15 p.m. According to the Houston Fire Department, the resident was able to escape the home before firefighters arrived but was taken to a nearby hospital for smoke inhalation. HFD estimates the damage to the home to be about $100,000.

ODESSA, TEXAS - A lawsuit has been filed in Harris County District Court, case no. 2024-27354, over the electrocution death of a field engineer at a ConocoPhillips fracking site in Odessa on January 24, 2024. The incident occurred when a forklift, operating near high voltage power lines, caught fire after striking them. The engineer, employed by Halliburton, was electrocuted while attempting to extinguish the fire. The lawsuit alleges negligence in safety management and supervision by ConocoPhillips and Halliburton.

Former Employee Accused of Embezzling Funds from Houston Concrete Pump Business

HOUSTON, TEXAS - Pump Parts Specialties LLC has filed a lawsuit in Harris County District Court against a former employee and his wife for alleged embezzlement of funds. According to case number 2024-26981, the former employee, who began working for the company in April 2019, is accused of endorsing checks meant for the company and depositing them into personal accounts. The lawsuit further alleges that he instructed customers to make payments to an ACH account he controlled, rather than the company’s account, and diverted funds intended for company invoices to personal bank accounts using a payment processor. The lawsuit seeks to recover the embezzled funds and obtain damages for the financial injury caused to the company.

Two dead after fatal crash on Hirsch

HOUSTON, TX (April 28, 2024) - The Houston Police Department and the Houston Fire Department responded to a single vehicle crash in the 10400 block of Hirsch Rd just after 5 a.m. When they arrived they found a silver Dodge Ram 1500 pickup truck that lost control and left the roadway. The truck came to a resting stop just east of the railroad tracks after it rolled over several times. The passenger was ejected from the vehicle and was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver was also pronounced deceased.

Man shot multiple times after asking suspect to leave his car 

HOUSTON, TX - A man was shot multiple times after he asked a suspect to leave his vehicle after he made his way in uninvited in the 3700 block of Rosalie around 11:30 p.m.  According to police, an unknown man made his way into the victim’s vehicle when he was dropping off a passenger with a cigarette in hand.  The driver questioned him and asked him to leave. The man left the vehicle but returned and started to open fire. The passenger was not struck, but the driver was struck at least three times.  The driver was taken to the hospital by the Houston Fire Department in serious condition.  . Man shot at Vlive Gentleman’s Club

HOUSTON, TX - A man was shot inside of VLive Gentleman’s Club in Southwest Houston Saturday morning.

Lawsuit claims bar is responsible for woman’s death after she was fatally struck by a car

Update 11/8/24 - The lawsuit against Scary Canary Pub has been dismissed. Scary Canary was not found liable. HARRIS COUNTY, TX - A lawsuit was filed this week against Scary Canary Pub after a woman who was served alcohol at the bar was fatally struck by a car shortly after leaving the establishment back in December 2023. The lawsuit alleges that the Scary Canary Pub located in Northwest Harris County is responsible for her death under the Dram Shop law. The lawsuit claims that the victim, Lauren Goppert was over-served alcohol by employees of the pub and then left on foot. She was then struck by a car about half a mile away.
