According to police, the vehicle was traveling southbound when it struck a curb, left the roadway, and continued for some distance before hitting the building. The woman was the only person in the vehicle and was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. Investigators believe speed was a factor. Preliminary information indicates that a dispute began when a customer boarded the bus and made physical contact with the operator. An altercation followed and continued outside the bus. According to METRO, the operator later retrieved a sharp object and allegedly stabbed the customer. The customer was transported to a local hospital and is in stable condition. The operator was detained at the scene. METRO says it is cooperating fully with law enforcement as the investigation continues.
