Suspects lead HPD on a chase through Houston’s Fifth Ward

The chase ended shortly after 4 a.m. in the 3000 Block of Jewel St., when the suspects realized it was a dead-end. The driver was detained immediately. Two passengers fled, and one of them was caught after a few minutes. K-9 units and a Helicopter Unit were on the scene assisting in the search. This is a developing story and we will update you as soon as we have more details.

A police chase ended after suspects crashed their car in a field, just east of downtown Houston on July 20, 2022 just after 2 a.m. Two suspects were detained shortly after the crash, and one suspect, a woman, remained on the loose. The suspects crashed their vehicle, a Nissan Maxima, close to the intersection of Leeland and Emancipation Avenue. July 17, 2022 - A family of four was transported to a nearby hospital after being injured in a head-on collision at about 2:50 a.m. caused by another driver in the 900 Block of Parker Rd, close to the Hardy Toll Rd in Houston. According to Sgt. David Rose with the Houston Police Department, a white Chrysler Pacifica was headed westbound when the driver started "riding the median". As the vehicle was on the median, headed westbound towards I-45, the family in the pickup truck that traveling eastbound was struck by the driver in the white Pacifica. Two people were shot after good samaritans intervened to stop a mother from being assaulted while walking with her baby

Police say the suspect and the mother, who was walking with her baby at the time, were arguing when he decided to assault her. A group of samaritans saw her being attacked and decided to attack the suspect. After the attack, the suspect came back with a gun and fired multiple rounds into a crowd outside AM Mini Mart in Southeast Houston. Two victims were transported to a local hospital. Lt. J.P. Horelica of the Houston Police Department stated in a press briefing that southeast patrol units responded to the shooting and found two victims. According to Lt. Four people, between the ages of 16 and 25 are dead after an argument broke out in the courtyard of an apartment complex in Harris County, TX according to a tweet sent out by Sheriff Ed Gonzalez. "Last night, around 11:20 pm, @HCSOTexas units responded to an apt complex located at 2331 Bammelwood. Units found four persons with gunshot wounds; three were confirmed deceased on the scene and a fourth was transported to a hospital in critical condition. It appears an argument between two parties led to the shooting. Follow-up investigation is underway by Homicide and CSI.". This happened at the intersection of Lockwood and Laura Koppe Rd. She was 23 years old at the time. The children and their mother were taken to a local hospital, but the mother did not make it. An appeals court ruled in favor of a man with a history of domestic abuse stating he can rightfully own a rifle or shotgun

New York City resident, Alex Taveras applied for a gun license and was denied because of a domestic abuse case in 2011. He was asking specifically for a rifle or shotgun license in order to protect himself at his residence in the Bronx in 2018. The officers who were in charge of reviewing his application found the domestic abuse case on his record from 2011 and subsequently denied him a license, citing the domestic abuse case and arrest from seven years prior. The problem though was that the alleged victim of the 2011 domestic abuse case and arrest ultimately dropped the protective order issued against Alex Taveras and the charges were eventually dismissed.
