Firefighters respond to fire at vacant building on Griggs Road

HOUSTON, TX – Firefighters responded to an abandoned building fire at 6355 Griggs Road at 12:17 a.m. December 8. https://youtu.be/IEW8CByAS6c Crews arrived to find heavy smoke coming from the structure. High winds made suppression efforts difficult, leading to additional Houston Fire Department units being requested. Firefighters brought the blaze under control in a little over an hour. No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire remains under investigation. HFD Arson investigators were called to determine the cause and origin. Forty-eight personnel responded from Stations 23, 20, 26, 18, 25, 35, 40, 24 and Rehab 42. HFD Arson investigators noted this is the third fire at the same location, following incidents on August 22, 2024, and October 18 of this year.

The crash happened around 1:30 a.m. when a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed failed to maintain a single lane and hit the barrier separating the service road from the freeway entrance. The vehicle caught fire and burned. One occupant was found inside the vehicle. According to police, the vehicle was heavily burned, and no identifiers are available at this time.
